Police collect CCTV footage, other evidence from his house
The police on Saturday arrested seven persons, including 28-year-old Priya Madhuri, the wife of filmmaker and Big Boss (Telugu) participant Nutan Naidu, on charges of assaulting and tonsuring a 20-year-old Dalit youth at her house in Visakhapatnam on Friday.
The police have collected CCTV footage from Mr. Naidu’s house, which reportedly revealed that the accused thrashed and tonsured K. Srikanth, a resident of Pendurthi.
The others arrested include T. Indira Rani, 26, housekeeping supervisor; Ch. Varahalu, 35, supervisor; I. Ravi Kumar, 26, barber, S Balagangadhar, 29; M. Jhansi, 19; and M. Sowjanya, 29, a staff member at the Naidu household.
Commissioner of Police Manish Kumar Sinha said the youth, Mr. Srikanth had worked at Mr. Naidu’s house from February to August 1. He then left to take up another job. However, he was called to Mr Naidu’s house on August 27 by Varahalu and accused by Ms. Priya Madhuri of stealing her iphone. Denying it, Mr. Srikanth left the house.
On Friday, Varahalu again asked him to come to the house around 1 p.m. When he arrived, he was allegedly thrashed by some of the inmates and staff with sticks and steel rods for several hours.
He was also allegedly verbally abused, said Mr. Sinha.
Later, one of the accused Ravi Kumar tonsured him. He was also threatened not to reveal the incident to anyone, the police said.
After the victim approached Pendurthi police, a team rushed to the house and collected evidence, including the CCTV footage, tonsured hair and the sticks used to beat the youth.
The police have booked cases under Sections of attempt to murder (307), voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons (324) among others. “All the accused were arrested and sent to judicial remand. Further we would take them into police custody and ascertain more facts in the case,” Mr. Sinha said.
